The Easter Massacre, Part III – Cookies and Cream Cookies

Imagine you are a chocolate bunny awaiting your doom in a cellophane dungeon. One day someone is going to open your packaging. You have only a split second to make a run for it. Most of the time, escape isn’t even the goal. Many bunnies only hope to be knocked unconscious by a fall to the floor.

There are a few brave chocolate bunnies who try to escape. Once on the floor, they yearn for the sanctuary of the Garbage Can. Then it’s only a short time until the Bag goes outside and the brave bunny can feel the cool breeze in his chocolate hair while hopping away into the bushes.

But getting from the floor to the Garbage Can is no easy task. Some humans are so primitive they enact the “five second rule”. Even after being coated in cat hair and having a forgotten Cheerio stuck to your butt, your head still gets bitten off. Even worse, you don’t get knocked unconscious and have to live through a human biting off your ears and nibbling on your toes, leaving the head for last.

Even in the Garbage Can,  your hopes can be dashed by a dog or even an errant child. To be taken out in the Bag and into the wild is a long, hard journey with obstacles at every turn.

Wouldn’t cutting off their head be the most humane course of action?

The chopping them into bits part is only necessary if you plan on making cookies out of them.

At least they’re already dead.

Cookies and Cream Cookies

based on the Better Homes and Garden Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe

Ingredients:

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

2 eggs

1 teaspoon of vanilla

1 tablespoon of milk

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 cups chopped white chocolate or white chocolate chips

1 1/2 cups roughly chopped Oreos

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl beat shortening and butter for 30 seconds. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar and baking soda. Mix until combined.

Beat in eggs and vanilla. Add milk. Mix in flour until well combined. Fold in white chocolate and Oreos.

Using a 2″ cookie scoop, drop cookies onto an ungreased cookie sheet about 2″ apart. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 – 10 minutes or until bottom is lightly browned. Transfer to wire rack to cool.

As an alternative, substitute chopped milk chocolate and dark chocolate bunnies for the chopped white chocolate and Oreos to make Double Chocolate cookies. I plan to do just that when we eat up all of these Cookies and Cream cookies.
