Embroidery Flower and Swirl Sugar Cookies

Made for a wedding reception a friend was hosting, for her son. Cue the collective “awwww”.

These cookies were fun, because I don’t normally get to do something so pretty. unfortunately, it’s very humid in my neck of the woods and some of the royal icing turned out less than perfect.

::sad face::

There was another version of these in which I tried to use my smallest icing tip to write the initials and swirls, but it was a disaster. I should have taken a picture of them, so show the fails as well as the successes. I’ll know better next time.

I ended up hand painted each cookies with the couples initials and swirls to match their wedding invitations. Accented with yellow dots.

On the other cookies, I used an embroidery technique to create yellow flowers and accented with blue dots.

Surprisingly, the embroidery flowers are really easy to do. If you were thinking about trying it and were feeling intimidated (like I was), don’t be. It really is simple and they turned out so cute. My flowers were a little “wet” (don’t go there), but that’s easy enough to fix and I’m excited to try again.

Some embroidery tutorials I used as inspiration:

Domestic Sugar

Clockwork Lemon

And this post is hot off the presses, but I love the site and it’s a great tutorial:
